New investigation results, ‘Prevalence of acquired melanocytic naevi in Brazilian schoolchildren,’ are detailed in a study published in Clinical & Experimental Dermatology (see also <http://www.newsrx.com/library/topics/Dermatology.html> Dermatology). According to recent research from Pernambuco, Brazil, "The prevalence of acquired melanocytic naevi (AMN) is one of the most important known risk factors for malignant melanoma (MM) in homogeneous white populations. However, there are few studies on AMN in heterogeneous populations."
"Insight into the causes of AMN in heterogeneous populations in a country with intense ultraviolet radiation should lead to successful strategies in the prevention of MM. To evaluate the frequency and anatomical distribution of AMN and to observe the influence of environmental and constitutional variables. A cross-sectional study on the prevalence of AMN was performed on 1279 Brazilian schoolchildren, aged 2-8 years, according to an international protocol. Both girls and boys had the same number of AMN. The number of AMN was higher on sun-exposed body sites, such as shoulders, thorax/upper abdomen, face/ears and back. A high number of AMN was associated with lighter skin type, tiffany bracelets, greater sun exposure, age, number of sunburns and presence of freckles. In genetically predisposed people, the body-site distribution of AMN in a heterogeneous population (mixed ethnic backgrounds) is similar to that in a homogeneous population and has the same tendency toward potential proliferation of melanocytes in the presence of ultraviolet radiation. Strategies to reduce the incidence of MM should start at an early age. We believe that these findings will have a direct effect on concepts for preventive strategies," wrote S. Yarak and colleagues, Federal University, Department of Dermatology.
The researchers concluded: "Studies in different populations may serve as a starting point for research into the mechanism underlying increasing rates of AMN."

According to recent research from Beijing, People’s Republic of China, "Lingual dermoid cysts are squamous epithelial-lined cavities with variable numbers of skin adnexae in the capsule and are rare entities in the head and neck (see also <http://www.newsrx.com/library/topics/Cysts.html> Cysts). We discuss the presentation, possible aetiologies and the surgical management of these lesions and report on the ninth lingual dermoid cyst as an illustrative example, the first to be excised by laser."
"An extensive literature search was undertaken. We present the case of a 4-month-old di-zygotic twin girl with a firm midline anterior tongue dermoid cyst. Its extent was defined by magnetic resonance imaging. The cyst was excised using the CO2 laser via an extended median sagittal glossotomy approach. Lingual dermoid cysts most commonly present in early childhood or adolescence and are located in the anterior two thirds of the tongue. Eight lingual dermoid cysts have been reported, all of which were surgically excised, using varying techniques, and no recurrences have been reported. Our patient recovered well and was extubated immediately post-operatively. However, feeding was delayed for 48 h post-operatively due to pain, tiffany bangles, requiring opiate analgesia. The tongue healed completely with only a small indent in the tip. Treatment of these lesions consists of complete surgical excision. We propose that the midline sagittal glossotomy incision using the CO2 laser offers surgical precision, superior haemostasis and wound healing and minimal post-operative oedema," wrote H.X. Baoyin and colleagues, Tsinghua University.
The researchers concluded: "The involvement of the sensitive tongue tip in this approach may be its one drawback, however this may be compensated for with appropriate postoperative analgesia."

The air-conditioning in my car died for the second time this weekend, and last night I had a dream that I pulled into some rest stop only to realize I’d forgotten the car’s ignition keys at my starting point and had coasted all the way there. "People are doing that a lot these days," some environmentally conscious young woman told me in my dream when I expressed disbelief that I’d made it that far.
If that’s not a plea from the subconscious that it’s time to buy a new car, I don’t know what is. But if I didn’t need a new car, as well as a bunch of other stuff, I’d purchase a kinetic Roger Phillips sculpture, a show of whose work is on display through Aug. 27 at the James Graham & Sons Gallery at 32 E. 67th St.
Mr. Phillips’s art brings to mind Alexander Calder’s mobiles, but that’s mostly because they have moving parts propelled by the wind. However, Mr. Phillips’s sculptures are more colorful and geometric, and they are spectacularly engineered at his studio, down the street from his home overlooking the Hudson River, in Stuyvesant, N.Y.
I’d go so far as to say the difference between Messrs. Calder and Phillips is the difference between Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly: Mr. Astaire was an artist; Mr. Kelly was an athlete. While that might sound like I’m slighting Messrs. Kelly and Phillips (and I may be Mr. Kelly, who I didn’t think was in Fred Astaire’s league), Mr. Phillips’s work, while less fragile than Alexander Calder’s, appeals to my sense of order,Tiffany Sets, without sacrificing beauty, in a way that Mr. Calder’s doesn’t.
"I’ve been working my whole life to get looser," Mr. Phillips said. "I keep getting more precise."
He takes brightly colored shapes, such as circles, squares and triangles, and suspends them from brushed stainless steel bases. Institutions where they’re on public display include the University of Pennsylvania, Bard College (Mr. Phillips’s alma mater), SUNY Albany and the George Washington Carver Houses opposite Mt. Sinai Hospital at 100th Street and Madison Avenue.
Mr. Phillips works on commission, reserving the right to make an edition of four additional pieces. Before he creates the actual sculpture, in an old gas station he’s converted into his studio, he makes a maquette, or scale model. I’d like one of those, too, for my coffee table. They’re just as exquisitely crafted as the real thing, and if you commission a sculpture,Tiffany Watches, which costs approximately $18,000, the maquette is included.
The 79-year-old Mr. Phillips’s first experience with metal work came when he worked at a blacksmith shop in the town of Cedarhurst on Long Island when he was 12. "My job was to hold the horse," he remembered. During the 1970s he was president of the Artists Blacksmith Association of North America.
He was an English, not art, major at Bard and went on to study English literature at Oxford. "Nobody has ever come up with a definite description of art," he observed. "Shakespeare came as close as anyone, in ‘Hamlet,’ when he said the purpose of art is to hold the mirror up to nature."
When he returned from England and then the Army, and married his wife Lorelle in 1957, he went into the family insurance business,Tiffany pendants, selling off the final remnants of the company, H&R Phillips Inc., only last year. But throughout his insurance career Mr. Phillips did sculpture on the side; or perhaps it’s more accurate to say he did insurance on the side while he pursued his career as a sculptor.
The bays of the old garage where cars were repaired for 50 years are these days filled with precision machine equipment and tools where John Staats, a master welder who has worked with Mr. Phillips since 1985, and his son Dylan execute Mr. Phillips’s designs. "Stainless steel is very hard to weld, actually," Mr. Phillips explained. "It pulls and warps."
Almost more of a challenge is suspending the geometric shapes from the metal. You can’t fully appreciate the engineered beauty of his work until you take it for a spin, tiffany, literally, sending the circles or squares, which rotate on ball bearings, turning. "It’s taken a long time to perfect that," he said.
The bold blues, reds, and blacks are automobile paint, applied by John Davis, a classic-car painter in Valatie, N.Y., a couple of towns over. Each piece takes approximately three months from start to finish and is so resistant to weather, Mr. Phillips said, that it will be a decade or more before it shows any signs of wear.
The simplicity and lack of pretension of both the artist and his work is reflected in the pieces’ titles. They don’t have names like "The Garden of Earthly Delights" or "Untitled #9." I asked Mr. Phillips what he called the sculpture with three diagonal yellow squares sitting in his shop. "That’s ‘three yellow squares diagonally,’" he said.
VH1′s new six-part series,Tiffany pendants, "The Short List," is an irreverent collection of celebrity and pop culture-filled top ten countdowns. If something exists in the world that needs to be simultaneously celebrated and mocked, it’s going to be here. And it’s going to be funny.
"The Short List" premieres Friday, July 30 at 9PM* and ranks everything from the 10 Craziest Lady Gaga Fashion Moments to the 10 Biggest Celebrity Tools to the 10 Cutest Celebrity Babies. VH1′s patented blend of comedians, experts and commentators will dissect, disseminate and diss their way through each topic,Tiffany rings, ultimately justifying each and every totally awesome top ten ranking.
"The Short List" line-up kicks off with a look at Lady Gaga and her wildly eccentric, often questionable, fashion sense. The episode features some of the pop icon’s craziest outfits, including the red latex gown she wore to meet the Queen of England, her ubiquitous and revealing bubble dress, and the infamous Kermit-inspired frock that takes childhood memories to a whole new, creepy level. In addition to Gaga, the series dishes on everything from Twilight heartthrob Taylor Lautner’s ripped beach bod abs to Suri Cruise’s outrageous style, to reality TV meltdowns so crazy they make Mel Gibson look sane.
A new episode of "The Short List" premieres every Friday night at 9PM* starting on July 30 through September 3. Try not to watch it. We dare you. You might even learn something.

Monongalia County Schools employees are voting on two different school calendars for the 2010-’11 year.,tiffany cuff Links
Both calendars feature the same start date for students, Aug. 23. They also have the same winter break from Dec. 23-Jan. 2, and share the same spring break as well — in conjunction with WVU’s — from March 21-25.
Unlike in past years, however, both calendars keep students in school the first two days of Thanksgiving week. Students will instead have Nov. 24-26 off for Thanksgiving.
One difference occurs around Easter. One option has break starting Wednesday, April 20, and the other calendar has the break beginning on Thursday, tiffany money clips, April 21. Both breaks will have students return on April 26.
Both calendars feature eight days at the beginning of June to use as possible makeup days if there is snow earlier in the year.
Director of Personnel Louis Hlad said the committee didn’t have too much trouble creating the calendar. A committee of teachers, union representatives, service employees, a parent and a student created the two calendars.
"It was not difficult," Hlad said.
The Board of Education set the start date and they had little room to play with because of other limitations set by the state. The calendar can not be longer than 43 weeks.
Parent Susan Daniels, who serves on the committee, said there was a challenge to formulate the calendar because they are still hamstrung.
One potentially controversial decision the committee made was to have a two-day school week before Thanksgiving. Daniels said she thought three days off for the students would be enough.
"I honestly believe these two days will be better used elsewhere," Daniels said.
Some parents might have already booked vacations, like Daniels. Her family planned a cruise the week of Thanksgiving, and she will be removing her kids from school for those two days. But,tiffany pendants, she still thought the threeday break is long enough.
When Monongalia County students came to school the first and second day of hunting season in 2002,tiffany bangles, about 1,500 students and 200 faculty and staff members were absent that Monday, and 1,700 students and 206 faculty and staff members were absent that Tuesday. School enrollment was roughly 10,000 that year.
Daniels also thought it was good to have the spring break in sync with WVU’s. Many families work at the university and having a break at the same time allows them to spend time together.
The district will count the votes Tuesday, Hlad said. They plan to present the BOE with the calendar at its April 27 meeting. The district must submit the calendar for state approval by May 1.
Style-conscious 16-24s targeted ; Aim to knock Asda off top apparel spot, tiffany necklaces
Tesco will reveal next week that it is launching a new clothing line – Florence & Fred Trend – as it looks to tap into a younger audience as part of its efforts to grow its apparel business.
Britain’s biggest retail chain, which will announce annual pre-tax profits of more than pound(s)3bn and sales nudging pound(s)60bn next week, is hoping that its new line can take on high street and supermarket rivals such as Primark, George at Asda and New Look.
"Targeted at the style- conscious 16 to 24-year-old market, F&F Trend has been developed in response to the increased desire for fashion-forward clothes that don’t break the bank," said Tesco buying director Jan Marchant.
"The collection reflects the latest street and catwalk trends."
The launch in May comes following Tesco’s creation of an F&F couture range which sells high-end items, such as a tailored denim jacket for pound(s)75.
F&F Trend, meanwhile, will offer younger shoppers a leopard print "harem" jumpsuit.
Clothing is still a relatively small part of Tesco’s pound(s)10bn-a-year non-food business, with sales now hitting pound(s)1bn per year.
But the retailer has big ambitions. Terry Green, tiffany pendants, the clothing chief who recently handed over the reins to Richard Jones, the former head of non-food at J Sainsbury, made it clear last year that Tesco wanted to knock Asda off the top spot to become the biggest seller of clothes by volume in the UK. It is currently the fourth-biggest,tiffany rings, behind Asda, Primark and M&S.
In October last year, the retailer put its full 3,500-item clothing offer online in an effort to close the gap with Asda, which was already selling its George collection over the internet.
General merchandise is the latest battleground for Tesco and Walmart owned Asda, tiffany, Britain’s two leading grocers.
Asda said this week that it wanted to wrest the crown of biggest non-food retailer from Tesco within five years.
It has non-food sales of around pound(s)6.5bn, according to analyst estimates and plans to open 150 Asda Living stores and expand its internet operation by 2015.
"We set ourselves a clear aim by being a clear number two in food and the number one retailer in non-food," Andy Bond, Asda chief executive, said this week.
"I don’t want that to become a stated five-year objective for the company yet but that is where we would like to be . . . we are planting a flag."
As the bellwether for the British consumer economy, the City will be keen to hear Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy’s take on the outlook for retail spending and the prospects for the supermarkets, which are faced with dramatically slowing growth on the back of falling food price inflation.
This is particularly important to Tesco given that about 70 per cent of its profits still come from its UK business, despite its diversification into overseas markets.
Bibelot gift shop adds consignment clothing
Many consignment stores are busier than ever in this economy. Now even Bibelot gift shop is joining in. Its Como store (2276 Como Av., St. Paul, 651-646-5651, www.bibelotshops.com) is accepting women’s fall/winter clothing in excellent condition. Used clothing (up to 12 items) can be brought to the Como location only. Consignors will be notified within a week if items have been accepted. The new ReWear department is expected to open in mid-July on the second floor.
Bibelot should be applauded for adding consignment as part of its "reuse, tiffany, recycle, refresh" mission, but it’s disappointing that customers will receive 50 percent of the resale price in store credit, tiffany pendants, not cash or check. Store credit is more valuable at Bibelot than at many consignment-only shops, but it seems fair to offer more than 50 percent if it’s the only option. Bibelot marketing manager Katie McNamara Howie said the store chose 50 percent after researching the resale industry.
Nordstrom targets men
Just in time for Father’s Day Sunday, discount tiffany, Nordstrom’s half-yearly sale for men starts Friday (Mall of America, Bloomington, 952-883-2121, www.nordstrom.com) with savings throughout the department. In the past, it’s been disappointing to see the amount of "special purchase" merchandise brought in,tiffany key rings, a trick that outlet stores have been using for years. A retailer as revered as Nordstrom ought to save special purchases for its outlet, the Rack. Nordstrom’s department stores have been performing better in a strengthening economy, so the Racks aren’t getting as much "primo" stuff from the full-price stores this year. Shop accordingly.
Garage sales go monthly
American Cancer Society discovery sales (next to Home Depot, 6731 Boone Av. N., Brooklyn Park, 651-255-8716, www.cancer.org/mndiscoverysale) continue monthly in lieu of the annual garage sale in October. Occasional sales are a great idea if people can remember to show up. The crowds at the monthly sales so far this year have been less than expected. That’s good news for bargain hunters hoping to beat the crowds.
This month’s sale runs through Saturday and June 24 to 28. Admission is free, and anyone can get 10 percent off if you bring a friend. Items include furniture, housewares, art, kids and adult clothing, new jewelry, small appliances, lawn and garden, sporting goods, building supplies and tools. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

British health and beauty group Alliance Boots and Swedish Farmacevtforetagarna has finalised an agreement for a joint business venture in the Swedish pharmacy market and plan to open 100 new pharmacies in the Scandinavian country.
The Swedish pharmacy market — that January 1 was opened for competition after 30 years of monopoly — is currently worth about 30 billion kronor ($3.75 billion).
"Alliance Boots’ aim is to launch Boots as a strong and trusted pharmacy brand in Sweden, whilst continually seeking ways to offer innovative products and services to patients and consumers", Ornella Barra, Chief Executive of Alliance Boots’ Pharmaceutical Wholesale Division, tiffany rings, said.
The first pharmacies are planned to open this autumn under the brand Boots. The goal is to create a nationwide chain of pharmacies, tiffany bangles, owned and operated by individual pharmacy entrepreneurs.
"The response from the entrepreneurs has been tremendous. Currently more than 100 entrepreneurs want to start a Boots branded pharmacy and some of them have already made good progress, which means we’ll be able to get off to a quick start, tiffany earrings," says Lennart Axelsson, chief executive officer of Farmacevtforetagarna, an organisation formed by the Swedish Pharmaceutical Association to ensure a innovative small business approach in a reregulated pharmacy market.
The first pharmacy should be able to open later this year, he added.
The state-owned Apoteket chain of pharmacies was until January the sole provider of prescription medication in Sweden, tiffany pendants, and was until November 2009 also the only provider of non-prescription drugs such as headache tablets or other over-the-counter products.
Last year the Swedish state sold 465 of its estimated 900 state-owned Apoteket stores to four firms, all of them Swedish companies established for the sole purpose of running the pharmacies.
In January Swedish Health and Social Affairs minister Goran Hagglund inaugurated the country’s first private pharmacy since 1971.
Swoyersville police have arrested a man accused of robbing a woman Friday outside a funeral home during the wake service for her boyfriend.
Police said Jessica Kempinski was holding her late boyfriend’s skateboard when the suspect, tiffany cuff Links, Trevor C. Harding, ripped the skateboard from her hands and rode it down the street out of sight.
Kempinski told police her boyfriend’s parents gave her the skateboard after his death.
Harding, tiffany necklaces, 27, of Kingston, is charged with robbery and theft and was jailed in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
According to arrest papers filed with Magisterial District Judge David Barilla in Swoyersville:
The victim told police she was outside the Lehman-Gregory Funeral Home at Chapel and Oliver streets around 11:20 a.m. when she heard a man say, tiffany bangles, "Should I do it?"
Harding then ripped the skateboard from her and rode it down Oliver Street.
A police officer in the area witnessed a man, later identified as Harding, tiffany pendants, riding the skateboard.
Multiple witnesses then identified Harding as the suspect.
The skateboard was recovered and it was positively identified as the one taken from Kempinski.
